Hello folks,
I’m relatively new to woodworking but I am working on a custom greene and greene style picture frame for a wedding gift. I intend to use an epoxy inlay to put the couple’s name at the top of the frame. My question is in regards to sanding/finishing.
I will be using hard maple and a water based dye stain with a black tinted epoxy. Is it better to apply dye first and then the epoxy?
Also, what about adding a topcoat over epoxy? Any recommendations on type?
Thanks,

Wedding Gift
I think the hand made gift is so much more personal than putting $ 500.00 in an envelope -
With water based dye stain it doesn't matter much but I would do the inlay first - sand the inlay level - than dye - followed by a spray finish from a rattle can of Krylon acrylic clear. Spray outside the fumes are strong.
