| Have any of you guys swung one of these clubs. I mean, Estwing has long held a special place on the side of my apron, but this thing is a bad idea gone wrong.The only time it felt like it had potential was when i was swinging one at the building store. The face forward design”to deliver maximun power to the nail” turned out to be akward at best, let alone trying to remove it from my hammer-hook while in out- of -balance situations. And the flat face seemed to work fine until i nearly missed on a swing (windy),lol, and the nail i was driving folded over into a mangled piece of scrap, which seemed to be a common phenominom when driving nails into knots with the slightly destorded angle the face has to compensate for the angled handle. Anyway, just had to vent a little, it’s back to the old 20 oz Estwing for me. However, the new fibre Estwing Hybrid does look Nasty, maybe I’ll give it to the new kid on my crew. Have you guys tried this thing and if so what are your takes?? |

I bought my first Estwing in 1966. a 16ozC with leather ring handle. The old carpenters I worked with told my not to use all steel, "no good!" they said. I continued to be an Estwing fan after trying breaking or hating a fair variety of others. During the late seventies I worked exclusively framing, hand nailed, 28ozC with the handle wrapped like a hockey stick. By the eighties I could barely move my hammer elbow. The old guys were right, as usual.
That new Estwing is the ugliest thing I have ever seen. Will it fit in a holster? How about 4d finish? It looks short and I don't like bending over. I've been using ergo designed hammers, some are wierd but all are a big improvement. I'm using a Stanley Anti-vibe now and I like the traditional shape. The truth is I hardly use a hammer any more except to set a bad gun nail. I don't miss being knocked on the back of the knee with the handle all day either. Who knows this ugly duck may be a swan.
There was a thread on these hammers not too long ago I think in Breaktime. The consensus was...'back to the drawing board boys'.
