Hi, It’s been 15 years since I’ve built your standard face frame cabinets. Recently, I started up again and was asked to do frameless cabinets. Could anyone direct me to any resources, books or articles, that could assist me. Especially the placement of hinges, both inside the box as well as the doors.
Thanks in advance,
Ron

I tried to find some sources on that also and was not successful. May be there, but I couldn't find it. I just sat down as usual and designed them on the fly. Took me a day to make sure I covered every angle. The good news is they came out well.
Hope someone answers with a source as I would also like some reference.
Luck...

"Took me a day to make sure I covered every angle." Last project I did, I covered every angle except the correct one! Boo Hoo.
And...to stay on topic, here's a Google result that looks good:Building Frameless Kitchen Cabinets (book title)http://www.cabinetmaking.com/frameless.htm

You guys amaze me with how you come up with all these sites and info. Thanks to all. Maybe someday I'll be able to find all this stuff on the computer, etc. Nah, why bother? That would be a waste of my time as I know all I have to do is ask on the forum. That frees up time so I can continue nite-school to learn to read and write. ha..ha..

Sarge, let me introduce you to "Google," my best buddy outside of you and ToolDoc, LOL! He can be found at http://www.google.com
Now, those other guys, they had all that info because they've actually built frameless cabinets. I haven't, but didn't let that stop me. I filled in the Google search box with "cabinet building European style" and CLICK, there we are -- take a look:

If you like Google and would like him handy in your browser window, I can send you a Google toolbar! forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)

I have been informed by the "first lady" that it's already there. She will show me how to use all that latter today. All it cost me was footing dinner at an expensive seafood restaurant to-nite. That's why I never ask her this stuff. Can we say "blackmail, boys and girls".
I could have spent the money on wood. Doesn't make any sense to spend money on women when you could get tools instead. I have no clue why I have been doing it since I was about 14 years old.
Good thing I like seafood....... and women.. ha..ha..
Regards for the day and happy retailing..

Hi,
I wanted to thank you for your reference. I ordered it today and look forward to getting up to speed. I appreciate your quick reply.

Thanks for your efforts. Maybe I can be of assistance in the future.

The people that make the hardware also have quite good details of the Euro 'frameless' system in their catalogues. I use Häfele hardware products quite a bit, and they have a doorstop of a catalogue. In the US, call 800-423-3531, convince them that you are a pro., and they'll send you one. Grass, Hettich, etc., have similar catalogues too. Slainte.

Thanks, I'll follow up on your advice

try Paul levines book and video on building kitchen cabs for the home workshop, also go to cabinetmakeronline.com danny proulx has some pretty good books also. Ut Oh FG already linked ya to dannys site. But their are some good jigs that do the measureing for ya. I use a rockler jig about 25 bucks plus forstner bit but blum has a great jig sold by marc sommerfeld. Just a thought.

First stop is the hardware companies, like Richard said. They have all the technical info, plus most have software that will do the basic math of designing in the 32 mm system if you want to use the system....you're not obliged to use the system, but if you learn it, it's a beautiful thing.
Books: Modern Cabinetmaking by William Umstattd. That's one of the texts I use. Has a chapter on 32 mm.
Modern Cabinetry, by Jim Christ. Out of print, but it's the best book I've seen on frameless.
Other:
the cabinetmaking forum at http://www.woodweb.com
forum for Cabinetmaking magasine
http://www.true32.com haven't been tere for a while, but they have a forum all about framelss. they have their own particular way of doing it, that they are selling, but the forum can be usefulcabinetmaker/college instructor. Cape Breton, N.SWAY too conservative to be merely right wing
Adrian,
thanks. Great resources. I'll check them all out. They all sound pretty good.

Thanks Ron,
all of you have been quite helpful. I appreciate your advice and I'll be ordering that jig ASAP.
Thanks again,
Capt. Ron
