Evening out worn finish on 19th century settee
I recently bought a pair of 19th century settees that had a mottled, dark brown finish on the crest rail. It rubbed off relatively easily with a little water and paper towel, but some of the warm finish under that also came off. Also, some of the raw wood is exposed (crest rail where I sanded a drop of stain and scroll arms).
Could you please recommend a way to even out the finish on the crest rail (so the lighter parts stand out less) and protecting the raw wood?
Thank you in advance!

My go to "how to" on restore furniture is Thomas Johnson Antiques on YouTube. He does a lot of this kind of stuff. Also, I'd suggest you go out to Amazon and look for a color wheel for wood. If you know the wood, that could help you figure out what to use (burnt sienna vs. raw umber vs. walnut) to add to get the desired color.
Thanks a lot!
