Pay close attention when you have lumber mill any where from log form, and here is the reason. A few years ago I had a very large Beech tree milled, it scaled out around to 500 bd ft. Not paying close enough to what the lumber looked in the rough the mill switched some of the 1″ stock to another species, or mixed some one else’s lumber . It should have clicked when the mill owner offered me $800. for the lumber after they cut it. ( Now the mill is owned by someone else and the original owner passed away )
I have also heard the guy’s that have taken lumber to have it kiln dried lost some or got switched some lumber.
Now I don’t have enough to finish the project , without going out and buying up what I need, If I can find the size needed for the job. I have less than $200.00 cost invested. ( Beech goes for $4.42 bd. ft.Now )

Here in N Idaho, sawmills are regarded in much the same light as lawyers, used car salesmen, and the like- They cheat everybody else and pass the savings on to YOU!
Don't know how useful this observation is, but when I had logs sawn to order in the past, I've hung around to watch and advise - I always reckoned I had a much better idea about where to open up, and how to open up, than a jobbing sawyer would. I think the sawyer appreciated my help and I certainly got a better parcel of boards. As a result, I knew what every part of the parcel looked like, and would have noticed immediately if there was any subsitution!
