Chris, I've never seen maple with bark inclusions like your photos show...Musta been one sick maple! It's virtually impossible to tell from the photos what species it is...In fact, it's difficult to separate wood samples of the maples beyond identifying them as either "soft" or "hard" maple...and even that can get iffy. Is there any chance you could post a photo of a leaf from this tree, or another tree on your property that you know is the same species?
