A couple of days ago I posted for some help in trying to identify the type of maple tree I logged and sawed from my bushlot and I now have some photos. If anyone out there has seen this type of wood before, please let me know what its called or better yet if someone has worked with it ,maybe you can identify some of its properties and value.

I can't ID it but I can't resist the opportunity to comment. COOL! You're going to use just a litle West Epoxy to fill the voids on that, but man, that's awesome. I ran into the same darn thing with red oak once, only the inclusions were considerably smaller, almost giving it a birdseye look, but they were definately bark. Nobody could tell me how or why the tree did that. I made a nightstand for my wife out of it, and everyone that sees it does a double take and asks what the heck it is. I'd think that the maple part is a safe bet. Beyond that, I'm just going to go look at the pics again and salivate.
Chris, i've gotten parts of boards with those eyes so i reckoned it was some sort of stumpy thing, but i've never seen any shot through with that figure end to end. Mine came in a batch of regular maple i was sawing up for cutting boards, so i paid #1 Common price, but don't let THAT be your guide! I pay $15/BF for elm burl, if that's any help.
