After looking at the “standard” Delta, Jet and Powermatic 14″ band saws, I have decided to look at other altrenatives such as Laguna and MiniMax. This is based in great part to the advice that some of you gave me on an earlier post.
I have found their websites, but I have not found any local dealers so I can look the machines over. Where are these brands carried?
Any discount sources over the internet?
Thanks again,
Mike

what is local for you??
In california mini max is at eagle tools in altadena, the also carry the heavier duty italian saw by agazanni. Laguna sells direct from orange county. That's sothern california, and really the west coast for you.

I should have been more specific. I am in Northern CA in the San Jose area.
Thanks,
Mike
Mike,
Have you checked out CB Tool in San Jose? From what I have heard, they are a major retailer of power tools.
MSD,
Yes, I have. They are a great distrubutor. I just picked up my Powermatic tenoning jig from them.
They are waiting, as I am, on the new Jet bandsaws.
At some of the Knots readers suggestions, I have been looking at Laguna. Looks like great machines, although more money than Jet.
Tough decisions...

Hi
I have a laguna and got it at a show, try a show to get a deal.
I've seen the mini max, they look good.
I know the lt16 is $500 cheaper and its really a great tool. I see where the cut cost and there good places (to me anyways) lt16 has 12" resaw and it can do it well, two dust ports so the bottom wheel stays clean, and a well dress tool, no sharp edges.
I got a lt16 at a show, it had a $200 dollar 1" carbide blade on it and paid $1084 for it after tax. thats why I recommend shows. At the show the mini max was $1600 plus tax and no second dust port, It did have a cool swing open door to make blade changes different.

John,
Thanks for the info.
Which 16" machine do you have? I just received the Laguna literuatre I requested and found that they have four 16" machine versions. Their prices range from about $1100 to $1800, as I recall. I also watched the video they included.
I am thoroughly impressed so far, even though I have not seena machine up close and personal.
A a direct replacement to the Delta 14", they have a 14" machine that looks very good, although I think I'll stick to the 16".
