Do you have any experience with leopardwood?
My local fine wood retailer carries 6/4 leopardwood at about half the price of hard maple. The boards are cut with the leopard figure on the edge rather than flat side, so they won’t have the visual impact as they would if the figure were on the flat.
Because of the price, I am wondering if this leopardwood would be acceptable for use in vise jaws, shopmade fences, or other places where my 1st choice might be hard maple.
What do you think?

Gettin,
I Googled leopardwood and it brought up a reference that says it's sometimes called lacewood? If that's the case, it might cause allergic reactions when processed/sanded.

A Woodworkers mind should be the sharpest tool in the shop!
I believe that it is easier than cheetawood, because it is a little slower and easier to catch if it gets loose.
Couldn't help it. lol
Pardon my spelling,

Make sure that your next project is beyond your skill and requires tools you don't have. You won't regret it.
Mike,
Funny. I've got to say, I am trying to make your tagline into a religion. I would add to it the collective wisdom with the following:
1st Commandment: Make sure that your next project is beyond your skill.
2nd Commandment: Make sure that your next project requires tools you don't have.
3rd Commandment: Make sure that your next project destroys at least one mediocre tool.

My experience is that it would be too soft and brittle for the applications you are thinking of. Try sticking your thumbnail into a piece of L-wood and hard maple. The L stuff I had, I could make a slice in the wood with my nail. When planing, I noticed the brittleness.
Looks nice shellacked, but...
