Hey all, ever see a real extension cord? This is 500/3 plus ground. Weights about 36lb/ft and costs today, I believe about $60/ft. I’ve never actually used it, got the sample from my wire distributor. It makes a great conversation piece. I sometimes tell people it is speaker wire!

Yeah baby!!! Now there's a MAN'S extension cord. I put one just like it on my coffee maker so I could make 'strong' coffee.......;>)

way cool Mr.Duke
in the late 70s the outfit I was with did alot of electrical service work at Carol Cable in River Grove Il. which made building wire and seal-tite.
but during one visit I hooked up two fine wire mills to make an "experimental" cable like yours .......for the Army ,
which wanted 500'
although I never saw the finished cable the maintenance guys said the thing was almost impossible to make because of the weight .....as part of the continuous vulcanizing process involved passing the cable thru a steam tube for about 125' ,and a return trip of the same length thru a water bath, without touching the wall of the tube or the bottom of the water trough, if it did the whole thing would have to be scrapped and a new one started
The DC equipment was an old Reliance tube drive and the feed, tension, and takeup speeds had to be synched manually and visually..a real brain smasher huh?
BTW thanks for the pictures

As part of my job I often specify portable generator sets, and some of the larger ones have 500MCM power cords made out of that stuff with big 400 amp plugs on the end. They're real fun to plug in, especially when it's below zero and the cord is nice and stiff - it's kind of like wrestling with a python.
