Hello. New to the list, long time woodworker and subscriber to FWW. A client is asking me to make a dining table, the type that has extension leaves that pop out at each end from under the top. I need to know if there is a formal name for that table.
Thanks,
pins

Welcome to the forum.
There are probably several names for those tables, but Tage Frid's 3rd book calls it a "Dutch Pullout". You'll find drawings in it that you should be able to adjust to suit the one you may make.
Thanks, I appreciate it.Pins

Often called a draw-leaf table.

I made several of those tables, to my knowledge they are called "butterfly leaf" tables.
Be very careful with the pivot point, it is critical and tricky, make yourself a mock up in full scale, just two pieces of wood the length and the thickness of the leaf, you don't need the width.

C,Would you care to share what plan you used for your tables? Thanks, pins
I don't have a plan but if you are not too much in a hurry I will make you a couple of drawings of the leaf mechanism.C.
C,That would be terrific! I don't think they have to be to scale because I work from rough sketches all the time. The deminions and proportions are important and I can scale it to fit the table. Thanks a millionpinshttp://www.centralvafurnitureshop.com
