I once read an article on the construction of an entry door (home) using a layering technique, I assumed it was in a Fine Homebuilding magazine, however I have had no success finding it. I purchased an article titled A different approach to frame and panel doors, unfortunately it is not the article I had read previously. Any ideas?
Thanks N.E.T.

Try doing an index search here at the FWW site and then try the FHB site. If that doesn't come up with anything, try the Journal of Light Construction they have a website and a forum.
Also, you can try Taunton books. FHB put a compilation book on Doors. I used to have it, but sold it to a guy interested in making an entry door for his new home.
One other thing, if everyone would please put some info down in their profile. It might help in trying to understand why someone would want to make a "layered door". For example if you live in Alaska, I might get why you would want to make a door with a foam insulation core, which was covered in that book I mentioned.
Try posting this over at Breaktime, too.

A "layered" or laminated door is a common technique used in production doormaking, with up to 1/8" veneers and a finger jointed center section. Even in pine, this saves money and materials, and makes for a more stable door.

Thanks for your efforts guys I'm fairly sure I have found the article over in FHB it's called custom doors made easy. I was hoping to find it in the archives, guess the article is too new to be archived yet.

I remember the article because I met the author at a Parade of Homes and was very impressed with his work. We tried to convince him to build our home, but we are an hour away. He also did a more recent article on interior trim.
I need to build a front door and am planning on using his technique.
I think his name is Gary Striegler from Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Good luck.

PS: Both articles were in Fine Homebuilding, I think the last one (interior trim) was last summer.Bob
If you or your 'sources' have Woodwork Magazine see Feburary 2005 issue..
Keith Rust.. Maybe he has that door shown out on the web someplace... I have not looked.
Not quite what you are asking for but a really nice door. I made one for a friend and worked out well.
I usually 'wing' my doors but I thought I'd try that one and I liked it ALOT...
