Can someone recommend a top quality ball bearing 4″ door hing for a solid wood exterior door or a reputable dealer. Google search turns up hinges priced from $5 to $50. I don’t mind spending the $50 but want to make sure the hinge is top quality and maybe there are ones out there in between that some of you consider to be the best.
Thanks in advance
Aaron

Any architectural hardware or builder's supply will have 4"x4" ball bearing butts (Either template or non template)
For wood doors and jambs, non template is recommended
Stanley, Soss, Hagar, Mckinny etc etc
Always use three hinges on exterior doors
Hinges are usually sold in boxes of 1-1/2 pair with either all wood screws or all machine screws (Metal doors)
All are American made and will last for years and years Special tight pin or non removable pin hinges are offered at additional cost.

Thanks for the info. What is the difference between template and non-template?
aaronb, The pattern of the screw holes are different
Wood screw holes are staggered (So as not to create
a split along the grain)
Metal doors have the screws along straight lines. These 'template' hinges are made to fit most standard
metal doors and frames.
If your existing door is wood
and you wish to replace the original hinges,
buy non- template and you can use the existing screw holes

Baldwin has the best (American made ) brass hardware.
Emtek makes a great 4x4 sq corner hinge in their 96414 series. Ball bearings, solid brass, heavy machined plate, brass screws. About $19.00 per pair plus UPS. Available in oil rubbed bronze, satin nickel or PVD lifetime polished brass.
