Fabric Dye

I thought I posted this question earlier but I must have screwed it up.

Is fabric dye suitable for wood? What is the difference between fabric dyes and what you buy from WoodCraft or other suppliers?

It will color wood, but it's a bit iffy to use for things of importance. Fabric dye doesn't have to have the light resistance that wood dye is expected to have. Some colors might well be similar and others significantly different. No way to tell which is which.
