Are you needing to store several different kinds of batting? or just one roll?
forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
2 to 4 rolls they areabout afoot in diameter and about 4ft long
Welcome.
My girlfriend needed bulk storage for rolls of upholstery fabric in her relatively small shop. The solution was simple: Two lengths of just about anything fixed floor to ceiling with holes drilled on centers ranging between 12 and 24 inches - 3/4 inch black iron pipe fit to the holes supports the fabric tubes. In the rear of the shop, where no one goes, the floor to ceiling vertical supports are 2x6 douglas fir. Out front, we used 1x6 cherry with a 1x2 return to keep things straight.
If you're concerned about the pipe moving out from the holes when un-rolling fabric (or batting), just drill a hole in the pipe beyond the edge of the vertical supports and insert a wooden pin.
The arrangement is simple, expandable and inexpensive.
And I have to say, the cherry has aged nicely. To the degree that I wish I had it back!
Regards.

Did you apply any finish to the cherry and if so, what did you use? JL
I used satin Varathane as a finish for no other reason than to get that gallon out of my shop. But, it's aged nicely. We will both be moving, expanding (and combining) our shop space within the next year. The design for the new fabric racks will allow the pipe to be pulled down by having one side of the vertical supports open, like a dog-leg. If you're putting fabric bolts up and taking them down with any regularity, the open access is a nice touch.

I have used satin urethane and varathane, and always found it a friendly finish. My wife also works with fabrics, among other materials, so I have a little exposure to the challenges she has to live with. JL

Here is an image of a piece of weaving equipment, fromwww.fiberstudio.com. It is called the Kromski harp. I tell you this only to give credit to the place I saw this. Forget all the weaving aspects of this loom, and look at the ends. This should start you thinking about something you could design and build to hold and dispense material from a roll. JL
