I’m re-making the fall front to a Dutch Tool Chest. The old one was too warped and did not fit and close easily. I have glued together a panel and have made and dry fitted a frame. I plan to make the tongue on the panel either by using a tonguing plane, or a smoothing and block plane to form a beveled edge to fit in the groove of the panel. Each way should work but which would work best? The inside part of the panel will have catches for the locking slats so should be relatively even with the frame part (I think).

Making a rabbet and tongue to fit into a groove, or just beveling the edge, it's just cosmetic for the most part.
Thanks, I think I'll bevel the front then a rabbet.
