I am in the market for a good woodworkers broad axe/ hatchet. I will be using it primarily for rivimg RGH 4/4 and 8/4 hardwood lumber and trimming the width of boards before jointing.
I am right handed.
any suggestions on features to look for ie handle length, weight, size of blade, type of bevel?? Type of steel?
Good sources??
Thank you.

I'd do some searching with the name Peter Follansbee. He uses axes in the manner you are looking to use them and I know I've read blog postings, etc where he has discussed this topic. I don't remember enough of the details to be helpful.

Thank you for the links! You always have great advice for me!
I immediately thought of him too. I'm glad I'm not alone in my preferences.
Thank you! I will check this out!
The Timber Framers Guild has a forum - not sure how active. http://forums.tfguild.net. They do have a FB page which is current - if you posted on either site I'm sure you would begin to get some very substantial/informative leads/info. on axes etc.
thank you! Will check this out..
