Hello all first post. I’m planning a federal tall case clock build & looking for a moon-dial clock face that isn’t brass colored. I’d also like to use a quartz movement so I don’t have to deal with mechanicals but the only movements of this type are of the conversion type which still require leaving some of the mechanical parts in tact so the moon dial can function. Am I doomed for a mechanical movement?

I can't speak to the specifics of the moon-dial clock face and interface to a quartz movement, but you're smart to work out those details before you make much sawdust. I've built two clocks over the past year with mechanical movements from Clockworks.com, and I highly recommend them. They were very responsive, and patient with all my newbie questions. They should be able to at least let you know if what you would like to do is feasible. They have quartz movements and dials, hands, etc.
Good luck!
