Hello all, I am new to woodworking and planning to build my first workbench. It is based on Schwarz’s knockdown Nicholson (needs to be knockdown to fit in my apartment). It will be made of rough sawn 8/4 soft maple and use 12 Veritas knockdown fasteners. I have access to a decently equipped workshop in which I will be building it. However, I will be using this workbench (almost) exclusively with hand tools/traditional techniques.
Some comments: The workbench is quite hefty, and I realize that the individual components will be quite heavy, but it is more important for me to have a stable and sturdy bench than one that can be knocked down solo.
I live in Quebec so maple is relatively cheap which is partially why I’ve chosen it.
I’m somewhat attached to the table dimensions because a) it will (occasionally) double as a dining table, hence the width, and b) the height may seem high but I am 6’6″, and I left enough room beneath the stretchers that I should be able to trim the legs if necessary.
I apologize in advance if there is any funniness with the model, I’m still learning to use SketchUp.
Some non-structural/design questions I have: Is 3 1/2″x3 1/2″ too large for a planing stop? Do the dog holes seem well placed?
Basically, I am looking for feedback from trained eyes since I’m not an experienced woodworker and I am using a heavily modified design.
Thank you kindly for any and all help.
Warm regards,
Gideon
Edit: I hope this is posted to the correct section 🙂
Edit 2: I’m not sure if the model attached, so here is a link where you can download it: https://gofile.io/d/XEj3GJ
