Feedback on Powermatic/General mortisers
I am interested in hands-on experience with some of the new and newish hollow chisel mortisers available. In specific; the Powermatic 719 series (especially the “T” – tilting table), PM 710 (the new 3/4 hp benchtop unit) and the General 5/8″ benchtop and 1″ heavy benchtop (?) unit. I have read through the reviews but haven’t found info on the PM 710 and haven’t seen the PM 719T’s tilting table reviewed. I will be using 1/4″ to 3/8″ chisels on white oak, cherry and maple for the most part. Casework, chairs and table construction mainly. I have used Oliver and Multico units in the past but have been using other methods for the little furniture I have done the last 6 years. Also, interested in experience with loose tenon or router-cut systems (JDS, etc.). Any information greatly appreciated.
Happy holidays. E

I got the bench top General recently and love it. Very smooth and quiet running. Used it to finish a cradle. I have not done much work with it, but what I did would lead me to recommend it to anyone considering one.
