Am thinking of making the expensive plunge into a Fein Vacuum. My questions are: Are they really worth the money?;I know they are quiiet, but I have heard dome downsided comments re the filters-easily clogged, hard to replace ets. I have a medium sized shop and do small to medium projects- i.e. I don’t have a big operation. any comments appreciated. Thanks.

I have the Turbo II and the Turbo III, I have had no problems with clogging or anything else. They are quiet, powerful and trouble free. Filters have been easy to change and no trouble to source.

I have had the Turbo II for 9 years. It has seen alot of use, some abuse, and continues to function well. I have used it to clean up after remod's, drywall jobs, ceramic tile removal jobs, and the complete gutting of condos. I use the bags and the cylinder filter. Every time I put in a new bag I take the filter outside and shake it out real well. In a pinch I have cut the end off a bag, emptied it, then stapled or taped it shut and used it again. I have to admit mine doesn't sound as smooth as it once did, or as quiet as a new one, but it is still working. Prior to the Turbo II I have multiple shop vacs of varying brands. I'll not go back.
I have the little guy - it is noisier than the full-size ones. I use bags, so I've had no issues with the filter. I buy 906-61 or VF2004 bags from any hardware/lumber store. Not a perfect fit, but the price is right.
I also have the large dia hose, as well as the small one that comes with it. The small hose is more likely to plug, the big hose does much better, but sometimes stuff gets caught at the vac's baffle at the inlet.
I'd by another in a heartbeat.
The small hose is for dust collection from a handheld power tool, not for general cleanup.
Then why does it fit the crevice tool, brush, floor tool etc.?------------------------------------

LOL, I couldn't have said it better myself. ;-)
Because someone thought that perhaps if they made small tools for the small hose that consumers would buy these tools also. Probably someone thought that the smaller tools would fit into smaller spaces? General cleanup requires a higher volume of moving air to move larger stuff to help prevent obstructions. Dust collection requires a faster air steam to keep sawdust moving; if a small amount of sawdust were to continuosly fall out of the airstream then a build up would develop over time leading to an obstruction. Besides, the smaller hose is more flexible so as to drag and snag less when attached to hand held power tools. It is kind of a pain to keep changing different hoses back and forth, but each hose does the job that it was designed for better. I own and use the Fein III in my shop and on job sites. It is an outstanding tool. And my eardrums do not miss the old screaming Craftman wet vac that I used before.Edited 11/30/2007 5:57 am by BigK

I have the small one (looks like R2D2) and it has been good for about a year of infrequent use. Now the auto-on switch won't shut off after the power tool is shut off.
I love mine. I hate my Shop-Vac
no complaints with my turbo III , have had it for about 3 years. the very low noise is the best feature.
I have a porter cable tool triggered shop vac...
the Porter-Cable 7812 10 Gallon 1-1/2 Horsepower Tool-Start Wet/Dry Vacuum
a tad bit more affordable than the fein and a truly excellent tool.
Positives:
very quiet
a hepa filter (really works great, even for drywall dust)
paper bags hold a LOT of sawdust and provide excellent filtration on their own- i've used this vacuum for drywall sanding and after 4 hours of use the hepa filter didn't have any visable dust in it... the bag captured even the very fine drywall dust.
big rear wheels and lower center of gravity make it very stable
nice fit and finish- looks like it will last a LONG time (except for the cheap hose)
Negatives:
cheap plastic hose
no attatchments included ($70 extra for the floor kit)
