My wife insists that there is a special felt that goes into wooden jewlery boxes that help prevent tarnish.
Any suggestions

Thanks for the response. I really was asking if it is required. A freind of mine has some peel and stick felt which is free and I have seen some at woodcrafters and Michaels craft store. If it is not common practice to use a special felt I am going the cheap and easy way. But if expereince says to get a special product I will.

You just told yourself what you should do! Forest gave you a link to the fancy anti-tarnish product.
Just me.
Youre right. If i go cheap and her jewlery tarnishes I am in trouble. If I get the fancy stuff and it tarnishes then I tried.
The breadth of this forum is incredible.
thanks

YOU do HAVE A POINT ON THIS SUBJECT~
I know nothing about jewelry, but I was under the impression that only cheap jewelry tarnished.
mike
All jewelry tarnishes a little, but silver tarnishes a lot, and fast. Most anti-tarnish containers are intended for silver jewelry. Although nowhere near as expensive as gold, and generally classified as costume jewelry, it needn't be that cheap, depending on the workmanship and the stones it contains. My wife pays $4 to 500 for large bangle-type thingies.

larry,
Another source I have had good success with is a local fabric shop. Several times they have ordered if they don't have what you want in stock.

Are you eager to polish the silver when it tarnishes? Hah hah. Get the good stuff.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Well, well
Isn't this a timely discussion. I have been suckered in to, encouraged, to make 6 jewelery boxes for the 6 closest woman in my life using the leftover bubinga, walnut, maple etc from those larger projects over the last couple of years. You know you can't throw out those pieces!
Thanks Jamie and the rest of you chiming in on this one.
ASK
I use Flocking from Lee Valley for the drawers in jewelery chests I have made. Does it prevent tarnish? I don't know - - my sweaty cleans our rings with brass cleaner.
Presumably it's all that hard rubbing with brass cleaner that leaves her sweaty?:)

>Felt for jewlery box<
When breaking in always bring a flash light. That way one doesn't have to feel for the jewlry box.

Exerpt from script for Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency ( also in book form ) :
FX: Phone rings. Richard answers the phone.
RICHARD Hel – (Gasp; whisper) Damnation…
DIRK GENTLY (On phone; distort) Rule One in housebreaking: Never answer the telephone when you’re in the middle of a job. Who are you supposed to be, for heaven’s sake?
RICHARD (Startled) Who is this?
DIRK GENTLY Rule Two: Preparation. Bring the right tools. Bring gloves. Try to have the faintest glimmering of an idea of what you’re about to do before you start dangling from window ledges in the middle of the night. Rule Three: Never ever forget rule two.
RICHARD Who… is this?
DIRK GENTLY Neighbourhood Watch. If you just look out of the back window you’ll see...
FX: Sound of footsteps. Richard goes to the window.
FX: The distant click of a camera.
DIRK GENTLY Rule Four. Never stand where you can be photographed. Rule Fi… Are you listening to me, MacDuff?
RICHARD Yes… How do you know me?
DIRK GENTLY Rule Five. Never admit to your name. I run a little course. If you’re interested…
Pause. Richard doesn’t reply.
DIRK GENTLY You’re learning. Slowly, but you’re learning. If you were learning fast you would have put the phone down by now, of course. But you’re curious – and incompetent – and so you don’t. I don’t run a course for novice burglars as it happens, tempting though the idea is. I’m sure there would be grants available. If we have to have them they may as well be trained. However, if I did run such a course I would allow you to enrol for free, because I, too, am curious. Curious to know why Mr Richard MacDuff who, I am given to understand, is now a wealthy young man, something in the computer industry, I believe, should suddenly be needing to resort to house-breaking.
RICHARD Who -?
DIRK GENTLY So I do a little research, phone Directory Enquiries and discover that the flat into which he is breaking is that of a Miss S. Way. I know that Mr Richard MacDuff’s employer is the famous Mr G. Way and I wonder if they can by any chance be related.
RICHARD Who…?
DIRK GENTLY You are speaking with Svlad, commonly known as “Dirk” Cjelli, currently trading under the name of Gently for reasons which it would be otiose, at this moment, to rehearse. I bid you good evening. If you wish to know more I will be at the Pizza Express in Upper Street in ten minutes. Bring some money.
RICHARD Money? Dirk… Are you trying to blackmail me?
DIRK GENTLY No, you fool, for the pizzas.
FX: Click.
