How tight should my fence lock be?
I noticed the fence on my table saw moving a bit (about 1/16″) when I was ripping some larger pieces of plywood. I tightened the lock adjuster bolt and it solved the problem, but I have to push down pretty hard now to lock the fence. Seems to me I’m probably doing damage if I keep having to crank down so hard.
Any suggestions? I think all (or at least most) fences have a similar adjustment. My table saw is a Ridgid TS3650. The fence is aluminum and locks both in front and back.

I have same saw and not expierenced that as of yet. Have you called Ridgid?
I will monitor this post in case I need the info later on. If you do call Ridgid and get an answer - please post it.
I don't believe there is anything wrong with my fence. It generally works fine. My question is more universal in nature -- how "tight" should the locking lever be on a fence? In other words, how hard should I have to push the lever down for it to lock securely? Also, this only happens if I'm horse-ing a big, heavy piece of 3/4" plywood through it. I don't have any problems with smaller pieces.- Toolfreak
A good fence should work easily. The locking lever should work up and down without much effort. Most work by way of an eccentric cam. If you are cranking down on one that is too tight, you could damage something. Over tightening fence adjustments is often a good way to distort some of the parts.
Fences, adjusted properly, can move if a work piece bumps against it. I knew a guy who slapped every piece hard against the fence. Each time the fence would move just a bit and when he was done ripping a group of boards, the last was always wider than the first. This is easy to do if you are trying to handle a 3/4"x4x8 sheet, solo. It's easier to cut the sheet down a tad larger with a skill saw first. A light tap with a full sheet is about the same as a love tap with a 4# hammer.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
How tight should my fence lock be? ..
For me that is a hard one to answer...
My Ridigid has a good fence (well, better than some I have used) that works OK even when cutting 4X8 3/4 ply sheets...
However, I can bang hard on the fence with the side of my fist and cause it to move a bit.. (pretty hard wrap though)..
I adjusted mine to the point where it was hard to lock the handle and 'backed off' a bit..
But then again I'm a old Tank mechanic.. We use to tighten stuff till we heard it 'crack' and then loosen 1/4 turn!
