I have heard good things about this (expensive) sander. It is dual mode and also has high speed for final polishing. I can’t find a local dealer to see one hands on. Does anyone have experience with these tools?

In my opinion, Festool makes the premier standard in most woodworking tools, especially the Rotax sander. I have used it nearly every day for a year and a half. I had one problem with the mode switch, which the Customer Service dept. at Festool immediately took care of. I thiink they have a guarantee that says that a repaired tool will not be in their posession for more than 2 days. Go to their website! Don't know where you live, however, my local Woodcraft is a Festool dealer. Yes, it is expensive and uses propietary 9 hole sanding discs, but I can't see using any other combo sander.
I received my RO 150 E (Rotex) a few days ago. As you know it comes with one sheet of sandpaper so I haven't done much with it - but I AM IMPRESSED. It is a horse. I'm waiting to get the sandpaper so I can go to work and also the polishing discs to "finish out" higher gloss projects.
Is their shop vac worth the extra money?
Jerry
There shop vac is "kick butt"! You can use theirs or Fein. They both are similar. It gives you virutally dustless performance. The auto start feature is great...I use it with my PC biscuit joiner also, and my Leigh mortise and tenon jig. Festool absolutely make the best tools in my opinion! Save your $$ and invest in their plunge saw with guide rails. It is so clean-cutting and accurate, it is scary! It has replaced my table saw for large sheet goods.
