I’d like some advice on what finish to use on a project. The project is essentially shaped like a very large salad bowl. It was made by face laminating about 30 pieces of 1/2′ Finnish birch ply together. The 30 pieces are rings – 3″w x various diam. stacked together to form a 48′ diam. x 15′ h bowl shape. The wall thickness is approx. 2.5′. It will be used as the base of a cocktail table with a floating glass top. I hope this gives you the picture. I love the visual texture of the various laminations in the built up ply form and I want to enhance the different colorations by finishing it with a relatively easy to apply permanent protective finish. I don’t want to use an oil or any finish that would require maintainence or periodic reapplication. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

Shoot it with nitro lacquer. Gives birch a nice warm amber color.
