I saw a video on sharpening card scrapers on the FWW site and the fellow was using some sort of jig/guide to hold his file to a right angle. Does anyone know a supplier of this kind of jig?
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark, Lee Valley sells them, even Woodcraft has them. I actually built my own.

Thanks CaptainKidd. Found them as you suggested. Best Holiday Wishes,

If you get it, get the file they list next to it as well. The slot that holds the file was too thin to accomodate the mill file I already had. The cost of the file is cheaper than paying shipping on a 2nd order if you run into the same problem. If you build it he will come.
You can make a simple jig for filing a scraper square.Take a 1x4 longer than the file, plow a dado 1/16" deeper than the file, and the width of the file. Drop the file in and add a stop on the far end.
Cut another 1x longer than the scraper, wider than the first 1x to hold the scraper. Cut the holder in half, bore a hole at each end for a bolt.place the scraper between the halves and snug up the bolts. If you want you can add a narrow piece on each side to ride against the bottom 1x.This keeps the scraper centered on the file, not neccesary though. With the bolts snug, push the scraper straight down til it hits the file, tighten the bolts. Now your ready to use it. Push the scraper, lift and repeat.I found that four times is enough.
I hone the scaper on a stone, you can use the same jig for honing.

Use your fingers, it's easy. Why buy a jig for something like that????
I picked up a nifty old saw card at a tool show for $5.00 and it works well.

Instead of a file, try using a diamond stone if you have one. Then the only aid you need to keep the card at 90 degrees is a small, square-sided block of wood.
If you don't have a diamond sharpening stone, use the money you would pay for a specialized card sharpening jig. The diamond stone will sharpen most any tool.
If you have a diamond stone but still want to get rid of money, send it (the money) to me!
