Despite what looked like a perfect dry-fit, a rabbet joint has left a gap exposed on the side of a box. (.016-.020). Material is hard maple. Will use a clear gel finish.
What are your best recommendations for filling the gap?
Objective: cover the mistake without looking like wood filler.
-Glue plus sawdust?
-Wood pore filler tinted or mixed with sawdust?
Thanks,
Greg

what about making the thinnest venier of a spline out of the same maple (that fits tightly in the crack) and glueing it in there? it's ok to make it a bit oversized because you can scrape/plane the surface afterwards. should be a piece of cake.
have fun

*alex,Based on your suggestion, I tried a plane shaving. Worked great. Thanks
*My experience with shavings or wedges is that they are the best solution. If the surrounding wood is face grain and the shim shows end grain it will stick out like a sore thumb (end grain absorbs finish more readily and goes darker). Cutting a wedge or shim that shows face grain is tricky because it breaks off easily when pushed in the gap, but moderate pressure is all that is needed.Bill
