I have a piece of burl that I would like to use as a tray for some wine goblets I have made. The burl slab is about 1″ think. I would like to fill the voids left by insects so that the top is smooth. The issue is that I do not want to eliminate them with plugs or typical filler, I would like a clear product that will allow the figure and holes to be seen. Any ideas? I have been thinking of the kind of product I have seen covering bars in local establishments but do not know where to locate such a product or what it is called.

Chris,
Try Devcon 2 part clear epoxy. Earlier this spring I did a screen door with a sunburst kick panel. The "sun" had a knot that I filled using Devcon.

*You can buy a clear, water-based grain filler, which should work well to fill small insect and worm holes and accomplish your goal of keeping them visible. I believe the filler is made by Behlen; if not, Sherwin Williams (or both).
