I’m trying to finish a old poplar kitchen cupboard that was my wife’s grandmothers. What is the best way to fill all the old nail holes and dings without leaving a shadow around the hole from the filler. We wanted to do it with Watco Danish Oil. I’ve mixed up some water base filler that is a good match. I’ve been working on the inside of the bottom doors and am running out of doors. I tryed using painters tape and cutting through it over the holes. Must be a better way. Thanks for any help.

Finish the cabinet first and then go back and fill the holes with a crayon type wax filler sold by Minwax and others. Simple and fool proof.

Are you sure you want to fill the holes and dings? Many people would consider that part of the appeal of the piece.
