I have made a large mirror frame (36×60) from cherry. The mitred corners are not completely tight. I believe that I read sometime back that the sawdust can be mixed to make a filler to make a good match for the wood. Is this correct and if so what is the process of making the filler and staining it.
Thanks

Bob,
You can mix sawdust with epoxy to create a filler. It will never match perfectly but it might be suitable for cherry which will darken with age. The filler cannot be colored after it dries. Yellow glue can be used but it always shrinks when it dries so it’s not as effective as epoxy. Wood puttys can be colored before you apply them to get a better match. Use universal colors and play with the shades until you find something that matches or is a bit darker.
Gary,
Thanks for the help. I will try the epoxy on some cherry scraps and let you know how it works out. Thanks again!
