In the Fine Woodworking No. 198 (June 2008) feature article regarding the Japanese Garden Bench, how can I locate a supplier of teak or ipe lumber and obtain a cost? Is it possible to find several exotics from a single supplier? I live in Beaver County in Western Pennsylvania (1 hour north of Pittsburgh) and I know my local Home Depot or Lowe’s would not carry this beautiful wood. Thank you for your assistance and I look forward to purchasing the plan for this bench when I locate a supplier.

The Web site http://www.woodfinder.com is a pretty good resource for finding nearby suppliers of particular woods. Type in the species and your zip code and it finds any dealer that carries that wood within a certain mile radius.
I just did a test search for you and it looks like you'll have no trouble finding a hardwood dealer within 50 miles of you that carries ipe (if I got your zip code right).
Ipe is going to be less expensive than teak, and probably more available.

Thanks for the great information. That's a handy website.
