Hi there,
let me quickly introduce myself, as I haven’t posted in this forum yet even though I’ve had an account for a while. My name’s Eckard and I’m a hobbyist woodworker in my 50s, living in Switzerland. I’ve been a Fine Woodworking subscriber for many years and I like the printed magazine a lot, especially since there is no comparable publication here in Europe.
My hope is that a fair number of forum users here are subscribing to Fine Woodworking magazine (the real, printed deal), and that some of them are willing to part with their old issues 🙂
I also hope that it is OK to post such a request here
Specifically, I am looking for someone to sell me the following FW issues and mail them to me:
– #296 (MAY/JUN 2022)
– #297 (JUL/AUG 2022)
– #298 (SEP/OCT 2022)
I’d be willing to pay the face value of the printed copies in decent condition, and of course pay for international postage.
Background story: Subscription shipping overseas has never been a problem in all these years. Then, all of a sudden, I stopped receiving current issues some time around May this year. Reaching out to FW customer support I learned that USPS has announced they would suspend priority mail express international service to several European countries “due to widespread disruptions of air cargo and trucking delivery”. This seems so inconceivable to me, as we do not see any interruptions with our Swiss (and continental European, for that matter) postal system at all. Strange times we live in 🙁
So now I’m hoping for someone who doesn’t want to hang on his copies and help me collect the missing issues. Is there a private message function in this forum? If not, I can provide an email address to contact me, just leave a note here. Also, as I don’t know how long the USPS issue will persist, I’m afraid I’ll be coming back asking for more issues…
Cheers
Eckard

Hi Eckard, I am a long time FWW subscriber and also live in Switzerland. I have experienced the same problem as you since May. I sent a written help request on-line and got one of the missing issues. I may have an extra one of the copies you are looking for as it finally arrived three months late, just after I got the replacement copy. I was not aware it was a USPS issue as I had related it to all the system changes they are undergoing. If you provide your email I can confirm details with you directly.
Hoi _snl_,
what a pleasant surprise meeting a virtual neighbor (I see you're from BL, I'm in AG) here in this forum far away from home... Yes, let's please continue the conversation via email, you can reach me at "fww (at) mail.ch".
Cheers
Eckard
It seemed a long time since I'd received an issue - I remember receiving the auto-renewal email in the early spring saying that my subscription would renew and I need do nothing. Tried to log in and the password I'd created wouldn't work so I phoned -- turns out my subscription expired Feb 1st!!
I contacted Customer Service and renewed, but they tell me:
1) They don't know why the auto renewal didn't work
2) They don't know why I didn't receive a phone or email message to the effect that the auto-renewal didn't work
3) They cannot supply the missing issues: #295, 296, 297 and 298!
I'm shocked. Taunton had always struck me as being unusually well run, and my previous experience with customer service has always been very positive. This situation has me questioning that assessment. It's hard to imagine that a renewal fails or gets overlooked and that they cannot correct such a problem --or that they put themselves in a position of being unable to supply even the most recent back issues to remedy their failed renewal process. I still find it hard to believe.
Does anyone know of another source for recent back issues?
