Just curious …. I’m building some bread cutting boxes out of maple. My wife thinks I should just leave them unfinished. I’m thinking I should put a light coat of shellac or something on them just to seal the wood. What’s the recommendation of you pro’s?

Don't know ... that's why I asked. Guess since it's going into a home with some little kids I figured they'd end up getting their jelly laden fingers all over it ....Then there's the occasional spilt gravy, Dad didn't wash his hands very well after changing the oil in the Ford .... who knows.Gotta admit the raw state of the wood is very nice. The top cutting surface will end up getting pretty scored up anyway ... So wife wins.No finish then.Thanks............
