Ah, now that depends on what normal is!
You might try oiling one or two coats. Let it dry thoroughly, and shellac or wipe oil based polyurethane varnish over the top. The oil tends to darken the timber, penetrates and highlights the figure. Amber shellac will darken it all again, and blonde is pretty clear. If the shellac isn't tough enough, the varnish might suit better, and depending on the type, this will darken too if that's what you're looking to do.
You might also try a weakish warm brown oil based dye stain. Finish with sprayed pre-cat, conversion varnish, polyurethane, etc..
In both cases you can tint the polish a bit to alter tone and to suit, but I tend to try and avoid tinting polish if I can.
