Had some free time yesterday morning and made 10 TS inserts out of Baltic birch plywood. I was just wondering what would be the best way to finish them. My TS is in an unheated garage that gets heated with a propane heater when I work. I live in Michigan.

Wax.
My shop is unheated most of the time also. I'd suggest trying wax on one insert and "living with it" for awhile to make sure that's all you need. If you get changes (even BB theoretically can move) that causes problems, then go to shellac with wax on top.
