Just wanted some input from all the experts. The wife decided that the handrail on a new deck will not be smooth enough for her. Well I thought that a fine sanding would be good enough,,, not so.
Is there anything out there that I can rub in to give an almost burnished feel? Please no poly. I live right dead smack in the middle of the U.S. so it is going to get all kinds of weather. The western red cedar has always been a favorite of mine even without stains or sealers.
Thanks very much,
Merle

How about a spar urethane - pretty tough stuff...
M.
Measure it with a micrometer, mark it with chalk, cut it with an ax.
Am looking into that now, its just that I wanted something like a penetrating oil of some sort. But I think I'll give it a shot and see what comes of it. Thanks
There is a marine penetrating finish by Flood called Deks Olje. It's a polymerizing oil that you flood the surface with and wipe off the excess. It's not a surface coating that can peel or blister. Renewal is easy when needed. Very low maintenance compared to varnishes or products like Sikkens or Penofin.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
Something else to look into, sounds interesting, might be what I am looking for.
Maby she gets splinters.. red cedar gives me rash!

I've got to say, yes she does get splinters.... she also designs all the projects around house, loves to use all of my tools(our tools), Whats got me really worried is when she confiscated my new Makita slider, she said I finnally bought something that actually makes the grade. The copper is a good idea, a local art student from the university ran that one by me also.. Thanks, will be looking into everything
