I just made some maple burl shift knobs for my truck. I have about 8 coats of minwax tung oil varnish on them right now. Then I thought about the temperature and humidity swings that can happen in a vehicle. Is tung oil varnish enough to seal the burl to avoid moisture absorption and other atmospheric changes within the cab? Is there another product that I should top coat with that will work well over the tung oil?
THanks for all your input.

Jeffrey,
Most of your spar varnishes have tung oil in them, my recommendation would be a marine grade spar. I don't know if you want to pay $30 for a quart of Interlux or Epifanes but, Z-Spar makes a decent spar varnish...FWIW.

*Dan,Thank you again for useful infomation. By the way, I went back over my maple nightstand using the "spot staining" method. It worked well. Not show stopping well but I'm pleased with it. I also found that the more I stained it, the less blotchiness showed through. Thanks,JEffrey
*Jeffrey,You're welcome, glad things worked out for you....Dano
