Finish Interference With Breadboard End Movement
Hi,
Not sure if this post should be here or in the joinery section, but here goes. I am building a dining table in oak with breadboard ends. This project will be finished with polyurethane (the only finish of choice for this project) and I am concerned that the poly coating will effectively lock the breadboard ends to the long boards, leading to seasonal splitting, just as if I were to glue the entire mortise & tenon joint. Is this a legitimate concern? If so, how to deal with it? I suppose I could score the joints after finishing, but am afraid that might lead to flaking. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Nope, it will not glue the ends.
I have never had an issue and favor breadboards for many tops in my designs.
Thanks, that's the reassurance I needed!
