Hello
I built a couple of Mission Style end tables last year and finished them with about four coats of Watco and then Watco satin wax. The tables look nice, but I would like to get a litte more protection on the tops. What finishes would be compatible with Watco underneath and how do I get rid of the wax? Thanks in advance to anyone that replies.

The wax will come off easily with mineral spirits and paper towels. Wet surface with mineral spirits and then wipe dry using on a single stoke on a face of the towel. Keep changing the face after every stroke or you will end up just smearing the wax around. Then do it again.
Scuff sand with 320 or gray scotchbrite, dust well and apply any type of finish you want. Oil based varnish, shellac and waterborne clear finishes can all be applied.
Perhaps the easiest is to wipe on a couply of coats of a thinned wiping varnish. This you favorite gloss varnish 50/50 with naphtha an apply two coats. Let if fully cure until it no longer has an odor and then apply a coat of paste wax using a grey scotchpad or 0000 steel wool.
