I just finished my first piece of furniture. It is a wood box made of ash. The top is 23″ wide by 36″ long. 4 boards wide with each board being glued and doweled together (7- 1 1/2″ dowels per board). The growth rings looking at the ends alternate frown, smile, frown, smile. The top has three layers of Poly, and the bottom two layers.
Two days after the final coat the top has started to warp. What did I do wrong? Is there any way to correct, or should I just chalk it up to experience? The box is still very nice. Probably a bit overdone for a wood box. But a nice piece of furniture.
Thanks, Jim

A moisture meter would help to get the ash in the 6-10% range. Barring that, once it's milled it will move somewhat as the higher moisture inside is exposed. It is also possible that while you sealed the top, you probably did not seal the underside- causing uneven moisture exchange.
At this point, you can remove the finish and beltsand it flat. Then refinish.
Every project can teach.
