I am a fairly new woodworker enjoying making furniture mostly. I have just recently completed construction on a cedar chest. The project proved to be lots of fun but I have a question if any one can help me with it. My plan is to finish the outside of the chest with some type of clear finish. The inside I will leave unfinished. With cedar being a soft wood I am not sure what the most protective finish would be to apply to it. Example poly, shellac, laquer I am just not sure.
Thank You

Do a search within Knots on shellac finishes finishes. They are easy to apply and very forgiving. Pay particular attention to posts by Frenchy, but do not ignore the others, and you will find everything you want to know about shellac finishes. Shellac produces a classy looking finish, and has great depth. JL
