I am making a cedar chest for a friend out of aromatic cedar. What options can I use for a finish. I am use to using a hand rubbed finish of a combo. of tung oil, turpintine and polyurethane. Will this be ok or are there any oils in the cedar that I need to be concerned about.

I presume you are putting the finish on the exterior, since the interior is left unfinished.
Cedar is a fairly soft wood, I like the oil type finish. My mother had a cedar chest with cedar exterior, with a varnish type material, it held up quite well, it was at least 60 years old when she passed on. I noticed that the top had some cracks and that all of the "hard knocks" tended to show up pretty bad.
