I’ve completed a short cherry bookshelf w/ walnut accents and some small panels. Some test pieces that I’ve done have not come out anything close to what I’m looking for so I’m looking for suggestions. The top may occasionally have glass on it so I want to take that into account and I’m looking for a finished project that is on the darker side of cherry. Any help will be greatly appreciated, I have almost no experience with cherry.
Thanks

it would be helpful to know just what sort of trials you've gone through. Did you use stain, or dye? What colors? Did you follow through with a topcoat after applying the color?
Color
If you want to color cherry beyond the natural color you see when the raw wood is only wet with thinners -
I like a light red mahogany or burnt umber on cherry -
you can see samples in the paint or hardware store -
Remember cherry darkens over time.
You can also seal the walnut with shellac before staining. The contrast is nice
