Peter, <!—-><!—-><!—->
I am looking for some guidance on finishing curly maple? Several articles from FWW recommend the use of water soluble Dye Stains but I am not able to find who makes them and guidance on color mixing to achieve a desired finish. I plan to follow the initial dye coat with an oil coat and final top coat. <!—-> <!—->
Can you provide any manufactures and/or sources for the powder stains? <!—-><!—->
Thank you, <!—-><!—->

Raul,
I use W. D. Lockwood's dyes. They are in New York and can be contacted by calling
212-966-4046. They come with decent directions also. The three I reach for quite a bit (for many types of wood, not just maple) are;
#141 Brown Amber, 142 Medium Yellow and 143 Medium Amber.
There are many other variations like golden amber etc. You can get them in as little as one ounce packages if you'd like.
Dyes are also available at Woodworkers supply and sold under the name of Moser's
1-800-645-9292
Also Homestead Finishing Products in Ohio has them.
Keep in mind that colors vary from company to company.
Have fun!
