I made a jewlrey box out of madagasker eboney[not spelled right] The eboney has lots of small checks in it . What would you use for a filler that is black,
I read somewhere if you wse plaster of paris for a filler it will turn transparent in the pores and checks ect. does anybody have any experience wsing plaster of paris for wood filler?
I do not have any extra eboney to experment with. Thank you for your response.

I have tried the plaster of Paris and was not impressed. It still showed white after a couple of oil treatments and that's probably the last color you want on ebony. You can get a clear acrylic grain filler made by J.E. Moser's from Woodworker's Supply that works with oil or water-based finishes (I like that one). Or option three is to use an epoxy and some sanding dust mixed together to fill it if the voids are large. Other may have more suggestions...Tim
I hate to suggest ideas that I have not personally tried, but what about a clear epoxy? If the checks are small, that may be better than trying to tint a filler.
