I need to know what finish I can use on an end table I am making with Zebra Wood and Purple heart which will deepen the color. I wet the wood to raise the grain for sanding and when I did this I achieved a deeper, richer color I would like to achieve with a finish. I wanted to use a semi gloss Poly but realize this will not deepen the color as desired. In need of any suggestions.

Lacquer will keep the Purpleheart purple (or it is supposed to help). It will also look good on the Zebrawood. That's what I would go with.
The other alternative would be Danish oil for three coats and then wax topcoats ( a couple or three). You will deepen the color although you must be careful of too much ambering. Whatever you do, try your selection on a few nice sized pieces of scrap before making your final finish choice.
