I am wrapping up a craftsman-style clock for my wife as a Christmas gift. I’m fairly new to woodworking and this is the first time I’ve ever used oak on a project – specifically Quartered Curly Red Oak.
I was planning on using an wipe on oil finish to pop the figure and nothing more.
I’m wondering if this sounds reasonable to you all?

I might top it with a couple of coats of satin wipe on varnish (non-poly) just for a slight bit of "finish sheen, but not sheen". I think just oil is very dull and it is also a dust magnet. You shouldn't need many coats for this since it will get no wear--maybe 3.
Good idea. Thanks.
