This weekend i salvaged approximately 7,000 bf of 30 year old 1×12 CAH (Clear all heart) Redwood siding. This stock is 7/8″ thick and in great shape considering that it is 30 years + old. I currently have access to wide belt sanders to clean the stock up and make it bright and shiny once again. My plan is to re-install the stock on my home.
Does anyone here have any experience with Staining or coating redwood to ensure a longlife as recycled siding. I planned on using a semi-transparent Duckback stain/sealer.
I appreciate your comments

You might also look at a product called "Penofin" it is a penetraiting oil stain. Be sure to stain both sides. Sounds like you got a great find on the siding.
Good luck

Take a look at http://www.calredwood.org/homeown/extfin.htm
thanks for the tips. Do not want to screw up on something so hard to replace.
you might also find out just how valuable that rw is cleaned up. crappy, wide grain kiln dried 'clear' all heart now now goes for $3.70 a foot for 2x4's. I put 'clear' in quotes because it wouldn't have been considered clear just a few years ago, this isn't tight grained wood either. I'm guessing that cleaned up your rw might be worth a fortune.
