finishing steps for kitchen cabinets, painted exterior with natural wood interior
my question relates to finishing order. kitchen cabinet build, customer wants white pained exterior with natural wood interior. what are the steps to finishing cabinets? mainly need insight as to whether to clear the inside of the cabinets and then mask it off to color the outside or do that in reverse order or ? we finish with precat gf and are trying to wrap our minds around which should come first and don’t want to make it any more difficult than we already are. we are still building but thinking that if we install all interior panels or do things in a backwards order… you get the idea, looking for insight from experience. thanks in advance.

Clear the interior first. I'd pre finish as much as possible before assembly as well.
Most experience builders use prefinished plywood. The prefinished side goes on the inside of the cabinets, and they don't do anything to the insides from then on. Assemble, then finish the outsides. Done.
I'm sure you already know this, assuming these are frameless the only options I see are mask (PITA) or edge banding with a pre-painted veneer using speed tape. Maybe this place has something to help wth color matched edge banding. I've used the PVC material and it is quite acceptable, at least to my eye.

But if they're face framed, paint them prior to assembly.
I've been building a few cabinets like this recently. I used prefinished Baltic Birch for the cabinet boxes. But, if i was using plain ply, I'd definitely try to prefinish.
I also prefinish the faceframes before installing them onto the cabinet boxes.
It's much easier to mask off the opening by taping a single piece of paper in place. Trying to make sure the paper will stay in place by trying to stick it on the inside of the face frame without access is a royal pain!
