Howdy!
When using pumice and rottenstone to rub out a finish on the doors of a grandfather clock, do I need to be mindful of the cross-grain issues at the junctions of the rails and stiles? Or, can I simply use circular motions over the entire door frame? The finish is Pratt & Lambert #38 and I’m not looking for a high gloss sheen. Just a nicer finish than if I used my old standby of paste wax and steel wool.
Thanks mucho much!

Direction doesn't matter. You are polishing the finish, not the wood grain.
